Naloxone: A Life-Saving Household Essential

As Flight Attendants, we’re trained to respond to medical emergencies, but emergencies don’t stop when we’re off the clock. With opioid overdoses reaching crisis levels across the country, having naloxone (commonly known as Narcan) on hand is becoming just as essential at home as a fire extinguisher or first aid kit.

Naloxone is a safe, easy-to-use medication that quickly reverses opioid overdoses. It’s available as a nasal spray and requires no medical background to administer. In many states, you can get it over the counter at a pharmacy or for free through public health programs.

Opioid overdoses can happen anywhere—to family members, neighbors, or even strangers in public. Having naloxone in your home, purse, or car could save a life. As Flight Attendants, we are trained to stay calm in emergencies—carrying naloxone is an extension of that readiness.

What Can You Do?

  • Pick up a naloxone kit from your local pharmacy.
  • Learn how to use it—it only takes a few minutes.
  • Talk with your household about overdose response.
  • Encourage friends and coworkers to carry it too.

Preparedness saves lives. By keeping naloxone in your home, you're not just protecting your loved ones—you’re bringing the same spirit of care and safety from the skies into your community.
